Local Area
The beautiful spa town of Ilkley in Yorkshire sits approximately 12 miles north of Bradford and 17 miles northwest of Leeds. Surrounded by ample countryside and stunning rural landscapes, Ilkley also offers a rich sense of heritage and a bustling town centre that makes it a sought after location and home town.
The town centre is lovingly maintained and is characterised by classic Victorian architecture, wide streets and beautiful greenery. The original Victorian arcade has been carefully re-purposed to create covered walkways with thoughtful detailing including a beautiful fountain and hanging baskets. Spend hours browsing local boutiques offering everything from locally reared game to fine wine and fashion. A selection of local galleries also offer a chance to view local art and fine works from further afield.
The Manor House, one of the town's oldest buildings, is particularly noteworthy for its stunning gallery and museum containing prehistoric artefacts gathered from the Ilkley Roman Fort, remains of which can still be viewed at the back of the building. Ilkley toy museum contains a collection of toys that date back as far as 350 bc.
For a taste of local flavour the Grove and Brook Street areas are home to a range of speciality shops, including Lishman's of Ilkley, a celebrated and award winning butcher that has won regional and national esteem thanks to its quality and personal service.
Much loved Yorkshire tea room Betty's is proud to offer a local branch, serving up warming teas and delicious homemade cakes and pastries. Food enthusiasts will also enjoy a visit to Marco Pierre White's training ground, the Michelin-starred Box Tree restaurant. The town is also home to two breweries and their products can be tasted in several local establishments.
